What's waiting for you at the cardio-checkup?

• At first, you will meet with a cardiologist. He will examine you, calculate your body mass index, and measure your blood pressure and pulse rate. You will tell him about your complaints, your and your family’s medical history. At the second stage, you will take a blood and urine test: general and biochemical blood tests, screening for lipid profile, determination of glucose levels, some hormones (link to full list of laboratory tests). Then you undergo an expanded ECG to diagnose heart rhythm abnormalities and assess the blood supply to the heart muscle.
  
• At a heart ultrasound, the doctor will see how your heart is built, assess its structure and function, what the size of the chambers are, whether everything is okay with the valves, whether the blood flow is properly directed.
  
• The next day (eat 3-4 hours before the examination) you will take a stress test. This is a variant of electrocardiography. During the study you run on a simulator with electrodes connected to you. A physical activity heart situation is created, and a cardiogram is taken at that moment. The doctor will track how your heart is working, what your blood pressure and pulse rate are. Based on this, he will give his conclusion.
  
• At the consultation cardiologist will tell you about the condition of your heart and blood vessels and answer your questions. He will advise you to undergo further examinations and to consult a doctor additionally if he finds any abnormalities. He will give recommendations on the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. This could be adjusting your diet to lower cholesterol and normalize your weight, limiting bad habits, or recommending that you give up bad habits.
  
• Bring your athletic uniform for the cardio-checkup. This will make the exercising more comfortable for you.
